LIFE IT’S WORTH THINKING ABOUT – from radio spots by Mal Garvin

There is a special joy most parents feel on seeing all their children sleeping peacefully in their beds. The constant need to respond to their constant demands can wear down the most loving of parents. The pressure can build, so that it’s not until there is time to distance yourself from them that you can see the qualities that enable you to authentically love and care for them.

There are times we all need a bit of space to regroup, to get in touch with our core selves so that we have a self to love with. The ancient Hebrews had their Sabbath – they had special seasons and times  that would give them space to catch up with themselves and their God and to renew their contact with their own spiritual dimension.

In the busyness and haste of our modern world I guess all of us, could do worse than learn from the ancients. It’s worth a thought.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Psalm 121:1

Sometimes I just need to let my soul unfurl; I long to expand and be inspired, while instead my spirit seems to be buried by the clinging mud of the urgent and the repetitive.

I want to lift my heart to you Lord; to see you and hear you, so my love for those I care about is no longer buried under petty frustrations and anxieties.
